Not quite what I was expecting. I guess I was confusing Spelling and Reading. It is very slow moving. We are using it for homeschooling. The left page has a few cartoon frames and a sentence of an on-going story to go with each. The right page has some letter/sound/comprehension exercises. The cartoon story is picked up again on the next left page. There are a total of 4 or 5 "stories" in the book. My complaint about the right hand pages is that the pictures are often hard to guess (what letter does this word start with? Well, would a kid call that a hat or a cap? See what I mean?) We will use it, but I don't think it is teaching him much. I like the DK Workbooks: Spelling much better.Product details

I Love the color pictures, & the comprehensive, detailed lessons. I like how they break down all the aspects of language. Good for home school as far as worksheets can go.
I am using it when I tutor students. They are enjoying the stories.
Great book for homeschoolers. Easy to use and understand.
The reading passages are high interest for first and second graders, but the reading comprehension questions are too easy, and the first answer is almost always the correct answer.
I home schooled my 7 year old last year and our reading program was lacking in so many ways. I got this to help get him back in track. He really enjoys this and has done well at catching up.
Lov the way the book is written. Very easy to read and solve the problems for 6 year olds
My daughter has been fighting reading, but I found her working in this workbook of her own choosing. She loves the duck story on every other page and it keeps her going. I really like this workbook.
